Project Name:Ongoing Deformation of Sierra Negra Volcano, Galapagos Islands

Location:
Galápagos Islands, Ecuador
Collaborators:
Gorki Ruiz (PSU) and Dr. Dennis Geist (UI-Moscow)
Project Description:

Sierra Negra is an active basaltic shield volcano located at the southern end of Isabela Island in the Galápagos Islands. The volcano has erupted twice over the last 35 years, producing VEI-3 eruptions in November 1979 and October 2005. Our project monitors the ongoing deformation of the volcano using ten continuous Global Positioning System (cGPS) stations that are located on the volcano.
